Intercast Weddings !!! Two States is a simple clean sweet and entertaining movie, based on Chetan Bhagats’s Novel of the same title. The book and the movie have tackled the issue of intercast weddings in India and their acceptability in our society. Since I had not only read the book but found it Chetans one of the best, I could relate with the movie better and with greater acceptance. India and the society, more so in north India ,has moved a long way over the last two decades to accept inter cast weddings and have even started accepting inter religion weddings. It’s a welcome change and while till few years back inter cast weddings always meant love marriages, today we are seeing plenty of arranged inter caste marriages too. In…

Celebrating Singledom !!!!! QUEEN is yet another movie on a women oriented theme, emphasising Woman Empowerment!  A well made, entertaining, good movie. The story of the movie revolves around a small town girl Rani, (hence the name Queen) from Rajouri in J & K. The girl is engaged to the son of her father’s friend, an engineering student but after he completes his studies he goes abroad and changes his mind, and calls the engagement off, on the eve of the marriage, as he feels that the girl is not of his standard. LUNCHBOX Revisited

Lunch Box REVISITED! LUNCHBOX appears a virtual love story on surface, but to my small mind it appears that it has tackled many other issues like, marriage, virtual relationships, aging and the universal principle of “life goes on” The movie has been a little harsh on married life or may be that, that is the black truth about it, in today’s time, that we are not willing to accept. There are five circumstances of marriage in the movie, the mans, the lady’s, the auntys, the lady’s parents and the man’s junior’s. The man is a widower, and lives a boring monotonous life, within the social norms, where sorrow and solitude has been brought in his life by death of the spouse. In the second instance, in the marriage of the…

Males Bond !! After a row of nonsensical movies, it was a real respites and a great delight watching ZNMD ! Hindi cinema has come a long way from the time when a simple love story or a love triangle was presented in four hours ending with marriage or death of the second hero, to a time where the stress is not on the story, but on life, emotion and above all inter and intrapersonal relationships. The stories today in good movies are real, which raise questions in one’s mind and give answers to many queries of one’s life. ZNMD is another such movie revolving around the lives of three friends .Based on similar lines of that of Dil chahta hai & Three idiots, somewhere this, seemed to touch the…

THE GREY IN LIFE ! While we were all too busy, enjoying the four letter words of Delhi Belly and admiring the return of the angry old ( oops........young)man in Budha Hoga Tera Baap,a lovely art movie from parallel cinema, I Am came and went, unsung, unheard and may be unseen ,like so many other good art films. Like Seven Feathers, I Am too is a collection of four independent stories where the director has touched four burning socio-legal issues which really don’t have a right or wrong answer and are far beyond the Black and White shades of life, but their cause, effects, implications and solutions ,all are grey. The movie has beautifully touched the various aspects of four very pertinent contemporary issues ,Single mother, Jammu and Kashmir issue,…

The population on the net world or the virtual world is increasing everyday and so is the insecurity and irritation of the remaining world which seems to be overreacting to social networking and Cyber-relationships Social Networking in any form is a healthy past time, if done without compromising on work and family .Its a great destressor and can be indulged into, at any place, without any major infrastructure. It is not only a great and simple means of staying in touch with family, relatives and friends but one not only makes a large number of new virtual friends, who often become real friends, but gets aware of what’s happening in the world. You can voice your thoughts, discuss problems and express your views. Doing this often solves many personal issues…

THE MISUNDERSTOOD MALE !!!!!!!!!!! Since the time of Adam and Eve, there have been certain misconceptions about the Men! The general image, on man has always that of a emotionless ,ruthless, unromantic, insensitive and irresponsible human being, who loves to be left to himself, or with his male friends ,to enjoy his sports and TV and hates going out, partying and shopping, who is having a ball of a time, in the family, at the cost of the women, and all that this sex-maniac expects from a woman is sex and more sex!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With all my sincere regards to all the caring, sensitive and emotional ladies, and my respect for their concerned love ,I shall try to touch this eternal story of the GENDER MYTHS ,and at least try to…

ARUSHI MURDER CASE--------------HONOUR KILLING !!!!!!!!! Honour Killing is the latest fade in India and almost tops the list of existing social evils. After the so called encounter deaths, Honour Killings are the in-thing. Indians are very good at picking up and emulating bad things and that is exactly what has been happening in the last few years Honour killing is a death punishment given to someone by the family of the local panchayat or villagers for bringing shame to the family, clan or the village. It was earlier being used as a local punishment for someone who was a serial crimnal, a thief, a conspirater, a rapist or a murderer. REALITY SUCKS !!!!!!!!!! Someone asked an artist, which is your best painting, and he replied, the next ! This realy applies to Amir Khan.............he never stops surprising you, with a movie better than his last best! and he has done it again in Dhobhi Ghat.Though the movie is the directorial debut of his wife,Kiran Rao,and even though he has been raving about it being the first movie where a wife, directed her husband, one can clearly see impressions of Amir's direction, besides his mega prescence, all over the movie. Dhobhi Ghat flopped miserably at the box office, and wasnt liked much by most, mainly because it was unlike the routine,Bollywood movies, simple.stark, hiting right in the face and sans all masala................even documentaries are more glamorous these days.It was extremely bland with no glamour or melodrama with verything being underplayed,Just a few…

MARRIAGE, DIVORCE & LIVE-IN-RELATIONSHIPS Relationships are one of my favorite topics for writing and the above three cover most of the aspects of relationships. Though I have written on these on several occasions, I decided to discus them, together and at length, in response to a short statement, recently made by Sonu Nigam. He said, “The truth is that marriage is never a happy story. You can never be happily married and I say this openly. In the next 100 years, there will be no marriages. There will be contracts and that’s better that way because the killer of a marriage is security. The moment the woman or the man feels secure ke ab toh ye mere saath mein hai oh! She is going to be with me for her…
