SHAME GAME !!
The Assam Molestation Case has not only once again lowered the head of all Indian men, but has blatantly showed how badly our system, including the police law and politicians handle such issues. (ASSAM MOLESTATION CASE,INDIA TODAY,July 30,2012) It has also broken the myth that east is more tolerant and open minded and safe for the female clan.
There was a time when Delhi roads were notorious for being unsafe for woman but now it seems that women and girls are unsafe all over the country, including the broad minded North East and the South, which is known for its high civic sense. Women of all ages ,from all socio economic strata and from any profession, are unsafe on the streets, at workplace and even at home, these days and what is more surprising is the fact that these crimes too, are committed by men of all age, from any educational or social background and shockingly ,often they are not strangers but known, neighbours ,friends, relatives or even family members.
All efforts from all agencies handling such cases and the only defence from the culprits can be summed in one phrase, She asked for it! Her attire, attitude, friendly nature, time of being out from home, places she visits, friend circle ,her past, profession and many such irrelevant aspects are singly or combinedly blamed for being raped or sexually assaulted and the sad part is that on basis of these accusations the victim is made to appears as the culprit and the real victim usually walks out scot free.
No man has the right to insult or sexually assault any woman ,irrespective of her any so called provocation ,in fact even a sex worker should be to move safely on the roads at any time. And if any monster still indulges in such heinous crime, he deserves the worst of exemplary punishment which would prove to be a deterrent for others to fear in future .
However, I would also like to add that no matter who is finally punished and whatever the punishment may be, it is a major embarrassment for the woman and so till our surroundings become safe, till the men stop behaving like beasts and till the police and judiciary become active and unbiased, self protection by the woman is the best. She should take all precautions to avoid situations which may be potentially dangerous and should be armed with some form of training, protective sprays or any other protective measure and above all have a great sense of suspicion to make her alert well in advance to preumpt danger and take necessary actions and timely protective measures …………High time we all joined hands to make our environment safe for women of all ages at all times at all places !
